View / Download

The Active Living Workshops are intended to educate and motivate community leaders and residents by stimulating discussion and illuminating a path toward improving local livability, walkability, and active transportation opportunities. Approximately a dozen local community leaders participated in the workshop on 6-21-17 in Hartford City, which included a walking tour and focus groups regarding walking and biking, and parks and greenspaces. Several HCA Partners were represented at the workshop- Hartford City Public Library, City of Hartford City, Purdue Extension, and IU Health Ball Memorial and Blackford Hospitals. Follow-up information from workshop organizers:

Greetings,

Thank you for joining us for the Active Living Workshop in Hartford City this week! We hope that you learned a lot, met many new partners, and discovered useful tools to help you support active living in your community. We enjoyed our time with you, learning about your community, and helping you to think about the opportunities ahead!

Most of you completed a workshop evaluation there that day; if you didn’t, or you have additional feedback, please submit the online evaluation here. Your input is important in helping us ensure the workshops are as productive and useful as possible for communities.

Notes from the focus group discussion and prioritization exercises are attached here and available via our online file sharing system here. The slide presentations and pictures from the day are also online there. Within the next few weeks we will send a link to the summary report, which will include resources and recommendations for the top priorities you identified.

Moving ahead, Health by Design and the Indiana State Department of Health will continue to support your active living policy and built environment activities in Hartford City. If you are interested in participation in local efforts, please contact Cheri (copied here) for more information on how to get involved.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions regarding tools, resources, project ideas, or best practices. We are always happy to help. Because of your interest in active living, we have added you to the Health by Design e-news list, which covers relevant announcements and activities from around the state. If you would like to receive updates about any of our five workgroups, please let us know.

Thanks again to each of you for investing your considerable time and energy into making the Active Living Workshop such a success! We look forward to supporting your efforts and celebrating your achievements. Take care and have a great day!
