7-12-17 - Notes - Delaware County Wellness Professionals Meeting

Thanks For Attending

It was great to see you all at our July 2017 meeting where we talked about various aspects of nutrition!  I'm not usually this late in sending out follow up materials... but better late than never, right?     Here's a recap of the conversation and resources that were mentioned or shared during the meeting.  Let me know if you have any follow-up questions or additional resources... or if you just need someone who you can run some ideas by.

  • Chelsie from the Purdue Extension office provided us with information regarding the farmers markets and purchasing in-season produce.  A list of local farmers markets was provided... along with additional materials.
  • Additionally Adriene Knight from Open Door spoke to us about the Open Door farmers market located downtown
  • Elaine Vidal spoke to us about community gardens.  She's working with Ball State and the Urban Garden Initiative.
  • John Disher shared info on the nutrition education program the IU Health/BMH Foundation is running where participants earn IU Health Bucks to redeem at specific venders at the farmers market.
  • Nathan shared a few of the practices implemented at the YOC...such as fixing pricing in vending machines, providing nutrition information at the staff cafeteria, and having a healthy food/meeting policy.
Again, thanks you all for attending and contributing to the conversation and knowledge base!   At our August meeting (next week) we'll discuss the topic of mental well-being and how taking a coaching approach to our everyday interactions can have a big impact. Hope you can make it.    Nate
